Department of Competition Law

Research areas

The core academic activity of the Competition Law Department consists in research in the field of Polish and EU competition law. The research performed covers also issues concerning relations between competition law and other areas of law, including intellectual property law, public procurement law and criminal law.

The most recent areas of the research activity cover in particular:

  • restrictions of competition in the digital markets;
  • intersection between competition law and new technologies (including artificial intelligence and algorithmic pricing);
  • combating bid rigging in the light of competition and penal law;
  • possible directions of changes in the competition law, in particular in the light of the proposed deepening of convergence of national competition laws of EU countries;
  • the competition authorities’ investigatory powers, the undertakings’ obligations and the scope of fundamental rights’ protection in competition proceedings;
  • the use by the President of OCCP of so-called “public compensation” as a mean of elimination of adverse market practices

Postgraduate studies in competition law

Subscriptions for the 9th edition of Postgraduate Studies “Competition Law” are in progress. Lectures are conducted by outstanding representatives of science (of INP PAN, Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw and other renowned universities in Poland), as well as outstanding practitioners (judges, employees of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection and law firms).

Postgraduate studies in the field of consumer protection law

Currently, the first edition of Postgraduate Studies “Consumer Protection Law” is in progress. Lectures are conducted by outstanding representatives of science (of INP PAN, Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw and other renowned universities in Poland) as well as outstanding practitioners (judges, employees of the Consumer Federation, Office of Competition and Consumer Protection and law firms).

Doctoral seminar on competition law

As part of doctoral studies a doctoral seminar on competition law is conducted under the supervision of dr hab. Grzegorz Materna, associate professor INP PAN.
