Prof. Andrzej Bierć

General information

  • 1972 – graduate of Law and Administration Faculty at Warsaw University – gratuated with honours.
  • Researcher at the Legal Studies Institute Polish Academy of Sciences (Phd degree – 1975, habilitation – 1987, professor’s title – 1999).
  • In the years 1988 – 1991 – deputy director for scientific matters at the Legal Studies Institute Polish Academy of Sciences.
  • Since 2003 director of Private Law Department, and since 2011 chairman of Scientific Council at the Legal Studies Institute Polish Academy of Sciences.
  • Editor in Chief of the quarterly „Legal Studies” (since 2003) and a member of editorial committees of a number of legal scientific journals.
  • Director of Civil Law Faculty at European High School of Law and Administration in Warsaw (lectures and master’s degree seminars).
  • Internships and study stays in many scientific academies in European countries.

Additional information

  • Arbitrator, expert in the area of law making, advocate, legal advisor.
  • Long- term chairman of Arbitration Court at Polish Banks Association, and for four terms of office secretary of Legislative Council at the Prime Minister Office.
  • In the years 1994-1996 member of a team of experts for the harmonisation of Polish law with European Union law at the European Integration Committee, as well as member of a team for the reform of banking law at the National Bank of Poland.
  • Within Economy Reform (after 1989) co-author of many legal grounds of capital market, and in particular, credit card regulations, protection of personal data of debtors and arbitration courts; author of numerous legal expertises and opinions on the drafts of the acts, published in „Legislative Review”.
