Call for papers to the special issue of the Archives of Criminology “Criminal Justice in an Age of Populism”

Event 28 April 2020

Call for papers to the special issue of the Archives of Criminology “Criminal Justice in an Age of Populism”

The special issue is edited by two distinguished guest editors – Prof. John Pratt (Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand) and Dr Magdalena Grzyb (Jagiellonian University, Poland).

The aim of the special issue is to examine the rise of populism in the 21st century, the variations it takes and its implications for criminal justice and penal policy in modern society. It will address matters such as:

  • defences against populism;
  • the circumstances under which populism may take positive and productive forms;
  • the attempts of would-be autocrats to usurp and extend special powers in place to control Covid 19;
  • the implications of the rise of populism for the way in which issues of rights and the rule of law are now understood.

There will be two steps of selection of papers to this issue. We invite expressions of interest (abstracts between 150 and 300 words) that should be submitted by 30 August 2020 through the online form. Selected authors will be invited to submit a paper by the end of March 2021 at the latest (using the journal’s on-line platform). All papers will be reviewed according to the journal’s policy and only papers with two positive reviews will be published in the journal.

All papers should be prepared and submitted in English.
